Brake hoses

To check

For reasons of safety, all brake pipes, brake hoses, connections and fittings must be maintained in perfect condition at all times. All these connections must therefore be carefully inspected periodically as stipulated in the service schedule. Brake pipes that are secured to the body with plastic clips must not display any signs of corrosion or pitting or other visible damage. Make sure that all brake line and hose connections are properly tightened and do not leak. Any damaged parts should be changed.

To remove

1. Depress the brake pedal slightly using a brake pedal clamp.

Remove fuse No. 1 for the brake lights.

2. Raise the car and remove the wheel on the same side as the hose to be changed.

3. Undo the connection at the brake caliper and the connection between the brake line and brake hose.

4. Plug the brake line.

5. Release the clip and remove the hose.

To fit

Warning

When fitting new brake hoses it is extremely important to ensure that they are correctly positioned and do come into contact with any other part of the car as a result of suspension and steering movements.

The hose must not be twisted. The front brake hoses should be fitted when the wheels are freely suspended and in the straight-ahead position.

1. Connect the new brake hose to the brake line and fit the clip.

2. Connect the hose to the brake caliper, using a torque wrench. Make sure that the hose is turned by the correct amount.

Tightening torque 45 Nm (33 lbf ft)

3. Bleed the system, see Bleeding the brake system .

4. Fit the wheel, see Wheels .

Tightening torques

aluminium wheel 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

steel wheel 50 Nm +2x90°, max. 110 Nm (37 lbf ft +2x90°, max. 81 lbf ft)

Important

The wheel must hang freely when the wheel bolts are being tightened.

5. Check the brake hose connections for leakage.
