Longitudinal link

To remove



1. Raise the car and remove the wheel.

2. Press the brake pistons back using a pair of slip joint pliers.

3. Remove the bolt from the brake pipe bracket.


4. Undo the two brake caliper retaining bolts. Hang up the brake caliper by means of a cable tie.

5. Unplug the ABS sensor's connector.


6. Remove the damper's lower retaining bolt.


7. Remove the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.

8. Remove the bolt holding the handbrake cable bracket from the longitudinal link.


9. Unhook the handbrake cable's return spring and remove the cable.

10. Remove the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.

11. Remove the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.

12. Remove the bolts securing the longitudinal link to the car body and lower away the link with hub and brake disc.


13. Remove the rear wheel hub with disc back plate from the longitudinal link.


14. Clamp on 89 96 753 Assembly fixture, A-bracket, rear axle (KM-901) as illustrated.


15. Remove the nut and bolt from the longitudinal link's bush and remove the tool.

16. Remove the body bracket from the longitudinal link bush.


To fit


1. Fit the longitudinal link bush .

2. Fit the body bracket to the longitudinal link bush.


3. Clamp on 89 96 753 Assembly fixture, A-bracket, rear axle (KM-901) as illustrated.

4. Tighten the nut and bolt retaining the body bracket.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°)

5. Use a wire brush to clean the wheel hub's mating surface.

6. Fit the wheel hub on the longitudinal link, using new nuts. Tighten the nuts alternately.

Tightening torque: 50 Nm +30° (40 lbf ft +30°)


7. Raise the longitudinal link to the body and fit the bolts. Secure the mounting using 89 96 795 Fixing tool .

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +30° (66 lbf ft +30°)


8. Tighten the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°)


9. Tighten the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque: 50 Nm (40 lbf ft)

10. Hook the handbrake cable on and refit the return spring.

11. Fit the bolt securing the handbrake cable bracket to the longitudinal link.

12. Tighten the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°)


13. Position the bottom damper mounting on the rear axle. Insert the bolt. Raise the steering swivel member with a column jack to about the same height as when the car is standing on its wheels. Tighten the bolt.

Tightening torque 190 Nm (140 lbf ft)

14. Plug in the ABS sensor's connector.


15. Fit the brake caliper, applying 74 96 268 Thread locking adhesive to the retaining bolts.

Tightening torque: 80 Nm (60 lbf ft)


16. Fit the brake pipe bracket on the longitudinal link.

17. Fit the wheel .

Tightening torques

aluminium rim 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

pressed steel rim 50 Nm +2x90°, max. 110 Nm (37 lbf ft +2x90°, max. 81 lbf ft)

18. Lower the car to the floor.

19. Depress the brake pedal to press out the pistons in the brake calipers.

20. Adjust the toe angles .
