Before changing a control module

Experience has shown that control module components that have been returned for repairs while under warranty are really fault-free. In these cases, replacing the control module has not remedied the fault. Thus, go through the following points before replacing the control module:

1. Check the last issue of TIS2000 to see if the problem in question could be remedied by a software update for the control module (for control modules that allow reprogramming).

2. Check all grounding points and the power supply to the control module.

3. Use the diagnostic tool to check that all read values are reasonable (several read values can affect one function).

4. Use the diagnostic tool to check that all activations work (a fault in an output circuit can affect another output circuit).

5. If the fault remains, the control module must be replaced.

6. The control module is sensitive to electrostatic discharge. So as not to damage the internal components, the control module must be carefully replaced as follows:

Keep the control module in its packaging as long as possible.

Never touch the pins of a control module with your hands or clothes.

Ground yourself by holding onto the car's body/engine. Unplug the connector of the car control module.

Place the replaced control module in the return package without touching its pins.

Ground yourself by holding onto the car's body/engine. Attach the connector of the car control module.
