Misting/cold air from floor outlets

Cars affected

Saab 9-5 with automatic climate control ACC up to and including VIN W3055180.

Background

The windows of certain cars can mist. Cold air can also come from the floor outlets. This may be due to the air recirculation flap that is controlled by the ACC unit's software not working as intended.

Every time the car is started the flap moves a step closer to the closed position. After starting 15-20 times the flap is fully closed if the customer has not pressed the recirculation button or calibrated the system.

The fault is rectified by updating the program in the ACC unit using Tech 2.

Parts required

Tech 2 with program version 24.000 or later. This version contains the program module ”ACC Service Programming”.

Procedure

1. Connect Tech 2 to the car's data link connector.

2. Switch on the ignition.

3. If possible, turn off power-consuming devices that do not need to be on while updating the program, e.g. lighting, heated seats, radio, etc.

4. Select:

- application ”Diagnostics”

- model year ”(w) 1998”

- car type ”SAAB 9-5”

- group ”Body”

- system ”ACC (Automatic Climate Control)”. Tech 2 now establishes contact with the ACC unit.

5. Select ”Service Programming” from the ACC system menu.

6. One of the three following messages will appear on the screen:

”Software in the ACC is old and needs to be updated. Do you want to update the software?” Press ”Yes”. The software is now loaded into the ACC unit, which takes 17 minutes.

”ACC has the latest software. Do you want to reload the software?” The software in the ACC unit has already been updated.

”This ACC cannot be reprogrammed! Incorrect hardware.” This message can appear if Tech 2 is connected to the wrong Saab model, for example.

If loading is interrupted, e.g. if the ignition is switched off or if the connection between Tech 2 and the ACC unit is broken, ”00 00” appears on the ACC unit display. The digits are displayed for 10 seconds after the ignition has been switched on. Check the connection and reload.

7. Calibrate the climate control system by pressing AUTO and OFF at the same time.

8. Check the function of the climate control system before returning the car to the customer.
