Cars affected

Saab 9-5 within the VIN interval W3050321-W3054551 with manual seats.

Background

The front seat tilt function on a few cars has been found to occasionally function unsatisfactorily. The affected cars must therefore be checked as described below.

Parts required

46 85 988 Bolt (4 pcs./seat)

43 69 104 Seat assembly, left (LH)

43 69 112 Seat assembly, right (RH)

Please also specify the following when ordering:


Trim colour code

Left-hand drive (LHD)/Right-hand drive (RHD)

With or without heating pads

For passenger seats: with or without passenger airbag

For passenger seats: with or without seat-belt warning

For passenger seats: with or without height adjustment


When ordering a new seat assembly, the enclosed order form must be completed and faxed to PAC, Nyköping, fax no. +46 155 244683.

Diagnostic procedure

Check the tilt function




1. Sit in the seat

2. Pull the lever on the front of the seat next to the centre console towards the seat cushion and adjust the angle of the seat so that the front edge of the seat cushion is at its highest point.

3. Release the lever.

4. Exert force on the seat in all directions and make sure the seat is locked in the adjusted angle.

5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 with the front edge of the seat cushion at its lowest point.




Does the seat remain in its adjusted position?

yes

No action


no

Replace the seat. See Service Manual 8:2 Interior Equipment, Adjustment and replacement, Front Seat, page 115.

Tightening torque, seat retaining bolts: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)

Remove and fit the belt on the seat. See Service Manual 8:2 Interior Equipment, Adjustment and Replacement, Inertia reel with belt tensioner, page 202.


Marking the modification identity plate

After carrying out the procedures on the affected cars in accordance with MI 852-1851, MI 522-1852, MI 644-1853 and MI 732-1854, box A1 on the modification identity plate is to be marked. If the procedure was carried out by the importer, mark the box with the number “7” and if carried out by the dealer, with the number “8”.
