Saab 9-5 to be fitted with parking heater as an accessory.

Background

This Service Information is a supplement to the Installation Instructions, Parking heater 9-5, June 97 (art. no. 47 29 653). The Service Information concerns the modification of parts included in the kit marked 2 in the illustration.

The Eberspächer diagnostic unit is recommended for fault diagnosis of the heater. The Eberspächer manual for fault diagnosis is also recommended, until the Service Manual from Saab Automobile AB is available (preliminarily January 1998).

Procedure

The procedure is divided into Preparations and Installation. Preparations must be performed before installing the heater as directed in the Installation Instructions 47 29 653. Installation describes any differences from the Installation Instructions, i.e. the steps that have been changed.

Warning Read the safety regulations in the Insallation Instructions before commencing work.

Preparations

1.	Drill 2 holes in the parking heater holder as shown in the illustration.

2.	File the holes and remove any filings and flakes of paint. Clean with Teroson FL cleaner. Apply Standox 1K Füllprimer. Apply a top coat.

3.	Mark out and remove the corner of the splash guard as shown in the illustration.

Position the heater in the holder so that the catches engage securely. Insert the two screws.

Suspend the holder with heater from the hook at the front of the bracket and screw the heater in place. Tighten the two screws that secure the heater in the holder.

Remove the rubber protection from the clip that holds the exhaust hose of the heater to the subframe. (The clamp in included in the kit and is marked as size 24.)

Fit the clip to the exhaust hose and bend the hose over the subframe (see the illustration in the Installation Instructions) so that it cannot come into contact with the front wheel or subframe.
