Coolant level sensor

Coolant level sensor

Warning

Exercise caution if the car is warm. The coolant is hot and there is also a risk of burning yourself on the manifold.


Removal



1. Open the expansion tank cap and release the overpressure. Close the cap.

2. Certain cars : Remove the cover (1 screw).

3. Remove the battery cover and detach the negative and positive cables on the battery.

4. Remove the battery (1 nut).

5. Undo the expansion tank mounting on the MacPherson strut (1 clip).

6. Turn the tank forward. Unplug the connector for the expansion tank level sensor.


7. Undo the clip that secures the relay box cable trunk adjacent to the battery holder.

8. Lift up the expansion tank. Pull the lower hose between the cable trunking

9. Clamp the connecting hoses to the expansion tank using pinch-off pliers.


10. Turn the expansion tank forwards and drain the fluid into a suitable container.

11. Undo the hose clips for each respective hose.

12. Lift out the expansion tank.


Refitting

Note

Spray the connector with Kontakt 61, part no. 30 04 520.



1. Fit the hoses to the expansion tank.


2. Release the pinch-off pliers around the radiator hoses.

3. Route the hoses correctly and turn the expansion tank down.

4. Fit the clip that secures the relay box cable trunk adjacent to the battery holder.


5. Plug in the connector for the expansion tank level sensor.

6. Fit the expansion tank in its lower groove and the mounting on the MacPherson strut (1 clip).


7. Fit the battery

8. Fit the positive and negative cables to the battery and fit the battery cover.

9. Certain cars : Fit the cover (1 screw).

10. Fill coolant fluid.

11. Start the engine and run to operating temperature with the heating controls turned up full.

12. Check the coolant level and freezing point. Top up with coolant if necessary.

13. Reset the clock and the radio if necessary.
