MacPherson strut

To remove



1. Raise the car. If a jack is used, the car must be supported on safety stands.

2. Remove the wheel.

3. Unscrew the nut securing the anti-roll bar link.

4. Unscrew the bolts securing the steering swivel member to the MacPherson strut and bend aside the holder for the ABS sensor's cable and the brake hose.

5. Withdraw the steering swivel member from the suspension strut.


6. Remove the MacPherson strut's three retaining bolts at the top attachment point.


7. Remove the MacPherson strut.


To fit



1. Fit the MacPherson strut in place on the car and tighten the three bolts at the top attachment point. The smallest hole acts as a locating hole.

Tighten the bolts alternately.

Tightening torque 18 Nm (13 lbf ft)

2. Tilt up the steering swivel member towards the MacPherson strut, press the steering swivel member inwards and tighten the bolts to secure the steering swivel member to the MacPherson strut.


Tightening torque 100 Nm (75 lbf ft) +45°.

3. Tighten the nut securing the anti-roll bar link. Hold with an open wrench or hold the hexagonal pin with a socket.

Tightening torque 84 Nm (62 lbf ft)

Tightening torque, nut with steel lock: 95 Nm (66 lbf ft)

4. Fit the wheel. See Wheels .

Tightening torques

aluminium rim 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

pressed steel rim 50 Nm +2x90°, max. 110 Nm (37 lbf ft +2x90°, max. 81 lbf ft)

Lower the car to the floor.
