Change to a new type of suspension arm
Saab 9-5 M98-M01
Suspension arms fitting the above cars have been discontinued and are replaced by suspension arms developed for M02-. The holes for fitting the ball joint in the suspension arm are larger on the new suspension arm which is why a solution in accordance with the following must be implemented if a new suspension arm is to be fitted to an older car.
1.
Remove the suspension arm in accordance with WIS - 9-5 Steering assembly - Steering linkage - Adjustment/Replacement - Suspension arm.
2.
Fit a new rear bush with nut, adapted for the new suspension arm.
Tightening torque 105 Nm (77 lbf ft)
3.
Drill out the three holes on the ball joint with a 10.4 mm (US SAE 13/32") bit.
4.
Use new bolts, washers and nuts designed for the new suspension arm and fit the ball joint on the suspension arm.
Tightening torque 60 Nm + 30° (49 lbf ft + 30°)
5.
Continue with WIS - 9-5 Steering assembly - Steering linkage - Adjustment/Replacement - Suspension arm, step 3 - under "To fit".
