Bush, longitudinal link

Removal


1. Raise the car.

Then carry out steps 2-7, first on one side and then the other. The illustrations show the left-hand side of the car.

2. Remove the bolt holding the mounting for the handbrake cable and the brake hose.


3. Remove the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.

4. Remove the bolts holding the longitudinal link to the body.


5. Remove the nut and bolt from the longitudinal link bush.

6. Remove the body bracket from the longitudinal link bush.

7. Press out the bush. Use:


pull rod from 89 96 688 (KM671) Tool, rear axle rubber bush

KM-906-41 from 89 96 761 Set of press sleeves, rear axle (KM- 906-B)

87 92 236 Support, for fitting F35 speed gear with the smallest diameter towards the longitudinal link

87 91 196 Ring, bearing race


Note

Tap KM-906-41 with a hammer and brass drift so that the bush comes loose easier.


Assembly

Carry out steps 1-10 on one side first and then the other. The illustrations show the left-hand side of the car.


1. Clean the hole and contact surface for the bush in the longitudinal link. Lubricate the bush and hole with Vaseline.

2. Position the bush correctly, see illustration.


3. Use the following parts from 89 96 761 Set of press sleeves, rear axle to position the bush:


Pull rod

KM-906-11 with the flat side facing the bush

KM-906-13-A as counterhold

Note

The rubber will swell out at the sides. This is completely normal.


4. Fit the body bracket back in place on the longitudinal link's bush.

5. Clamp 89 96 753 Assembly fixture, A-bracket, rear axle (KM-901) onto the longitudinal link as illustrated.


6. Tighten the nut and bolt retaining the body bracket.

Tightening torque 90 Nm +60° (70 lbf ft +60°)

7. Lift up the longitudinal link to the body using a column jack and fit the bolts.


8. Fasten the mounting as close to the previous position as possible.

Tightening torque: 90 Nm +30° (66 lbf ft +30°)

9. Tighten the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.

Tightening torque 50 Nm (40 lbf ft).


10. Fit the mounting for the handbrake cable and the brake hose.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 lbf ft).

11. Lower the car.

12. Adjust the toe-in (4-wheel alignment).
