Driver airbag

Driver airbag

The driver's airbag is mounted in the steering wheel. It is connected to pins 1 and 2 of the control module.

A gas generator and airbag are fitted on the driver's side of the car. The gas generator is riveted and screwed to a metal bracket. The airbag is protected by a plastic cover with fracture lines that is mounted on the metal bracket. The airbag has a volume of about 60 litres.

The steering wheel centre pad (airbag module) is supplied with test and detonation current from a coil spring (contact roller), which also supplies the SID with information from the steering wheel buttons.

Driver airbag gas generator

The gas generator consists of a light alloy housing, electric detonator, explosive charge and filter.

On receiving an activation command, the control module sends a current pulse to the detonator which ignites the explosive charge. On combustion, this explosive charge generates a gas. The filter cools the gas and removes particles from it before it passes into the airbag.
