Tailgate hinges, 5D

To remove



1. Remove the tailgate. See .

2. Remove the gas spring from the hinge.

3. Remove the bolt securing the hinge on the inside.

4. Remove the side supports.


5. Pull off the weatherstrip sufficiently to reveal the mouldings.

6. Some cars : Remove the side covers.

7. Some cars : Remove the upper cover.

8. Unscrew the two bolts on the outside of the body.


9. Lift out the hinge.


To fit



1. Put the hinge in position.

2. Screw on the two bolts on the outside of the body.

3. Screw in the bolt on the inside.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14 lbf ft)


4. Lubricate the gas spring ball sockets with Gleitmo 805 (part no. 30 06 442) and fit the gas spring.

5. Fit the tailgate, refer to .

6. Adjust the tailgate, refer to .

7. Certain car : Fit the covers around the tailgate opening.
