Incorrect temperature of air from rear air vents (in relation to temperature specified for front panel vents)

Incorrect temperature of air from rear air vents (in relation to temperature specified for front panel vents)

Fault symptoms

The temperature in the rear of the cabin does not agree with that set on the ACC unit.

Conditions

The rear heating damper in the heating and ventilation unit in the Saab 9-5 is controlled by a linkage from the front passenger heating damper. The design of the linkage and the rear damper means that in some cars and in some driving conditions, the air admitted to the rear of the cabin is too warm compared to that in the front of the cabin. This phenomena can arise when different temperatures are set for left and right-hand sides along with certain distribution settings. The temperature in the rear of the cabin can be too high even if the passenger panel vent is closed.

In addition, during winter, the rear of the cabin may be felt to be cold in comparison to the temperature set on the ACC unit.

Procedure

Change the rear cam. Refer to Warm air in rear, VENT . For the part number for the service kit, refer to the electronic parts catalogue (EPC).
