Fault symptoms

Market US/CA: CHECK ENGINE

On-Board Diagnostics

Type of diagnosis:

- Once per driving cycle. Interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled or OK reported. Restarts next driving cycle.

Enable criteria:

- Tests 1, 2 and 3: Engine running. A counter accumulates a value for each second that passes since the engine was started. With the accelerator pedal depressed, the value is 1 and with the accelerator pedal released, the value is 0.5. Starting temperatures for intake air and coolant have been registered and the lowest of them has been selected.

Fault criteria:

- Test 1: When the temperature value is below -7°C, the counter reaches 600 before closed loop starts.

- Test 2: When the temperature value is between -7°C and 10°C, the counter reaches 300 before closed loop starts.

- Test 3: When the temperature value exceeds 10°C, the counter reaches 120 before closed loop starts.

Dependents:

- None.

System reaction to a fault:

- None.

OK report:

- Closed loop activated before the fault criteria is fulfilled for any of the tests.

Fault handling: (See “Fault diagnosis, general” for more information.)

- Type III.

Diagnostic help

Fault diagnosis concerns electrical faults in connected leads or in the sensor.

Diagnostic tool functions related to this fault are:

Diagnostic status for the diagnosis.

All readings in the group: LAMBDA STATUS.

Heated oxygen sensor reading, in V.

Coolant Temperature, unit °C.

See also the description of test values under ”Fault diagnosis, general” for more information.

Check the wiring

Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
