Temperature sensor, coolant

Temperature sensor, coolant

Warning

Be careful if the car is warm. The coolant is hot and there is a risk of burns from the intake manifold.

To remove

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Carefully unscrew the expansion tank filler cap (to release the pressure, if any) and then screw it back into place.

3. Detach the turbo pressure hose from the throttle body and put it to one side.

4. Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body.

5. Undo the throttle body from the intake manifold and carefully lift it away from the intake manifold.

6. Unplug the sensor connector from the throttle body and quickly replace the sensor so that a little coolant as possible escapes. See “To fit” before removing the sensor.

To fit

1. Fit a new sealing washer if necessary.

Lubricate the threads with Molykote 1000 (part No. 30 20 971) or the equivalent.

2. Spray the connector with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 21 763) and connect it to the sensor.

3. Fit the throttle body. Replace its O-ring if necessary.

4. Connect the throttle cable and adjust if necessary.

5. Fit the turbo pressure hose to the throttle body.

6. After fitting, top up with coolant as necessary. Dilute the coolant with water to a mixture of 1:1 (equal parts water and coolant).

Start the car and run it warm. Make sure no leaks have occurred. Top up with coolant if necessary.

Fit the cover.
