Rear window wiper (5D)

Rear window wiper (5D)

When the ON/OFF button is moved from the OFF position to the spring return position TIP (towards the steering column), the rear window wiper starts in intermittent position. The wiper then performs one stroke every 8 seconds. The interval is controlled by DICE and is not adjustable.

If the button on the end of the wiper stalk switch is depressed, the rear window washer will start and the wiper will operate continuously as long as the button is kept depressed. The rear window wiper performs 3 strokes after the rear window washer button has been released and then once more 8 seconds after the last stroke.

If the windscreen wipers are operating either intermittently or continuously and reverse gear is engaged, the rear window wiper will start in intermittent mode. The rear wiper is active until reverse gear is disengaged.

When the switch (61a) closes, +54 voltage is fed via fuse 4 to the intermittent wiper relay (83a) and the switch (61a). Pin 19 on DICE (628) is powered from the switch pin 4. Pin 12 grounds the relay (83a) and the motor (62R) is powered on pin 2.

There is a built-in mechanically controlled connector (31B) in the wiper motor that receives power, regardless of the switch's (61) position. As a result, the intermittent function only requires a start pulse from DICE to become active.

If the rear window washer button is depressed, the rear window washer relay (432) is powered from pin 2 on the switch (61a). DICE pin 68 is powered from pin 5 on the switch (61a). Pin 12 on DICE grounds pin 5 so that the relay (83a) is activated and the motor (62R) starts wiping. The relay (83a) is grounded for 5 seconds after the switch (61a) has been depressed. This corresponds with 3 strokes of the rear window wiper.
