Gear selector position sensor

1.
|
Remove the battery cover, battery and battery tray.
|
2.
|
Clean round the place where the fluid filler pipe enters the transmission.
|
3.
|
Remove the fluid filler pipe.
|
4.
|
Move the selector lever to position 1 and undo the lever's retaining nut.
|
6.
|
Remove the gear selector position sensor's retaining bolts.
|
7.
|
Remove the gear selector position sensor's nut.
|
8.
|
Unplug the connector and lift the sensor off the shaft.
|
1.
|
Plug in the connector and mount the sensor on the shaft.
|
2.
|
Screw on the gear selector position sensor's nut.
Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 lbf ft)
|
3.
|
Refit the lever without tightening it and move the selector lever to position N.
Lift off the lever and fit tool 87 92 467.
|
4.
|
Clean and lubricate the fluid filler pipe's O-ring with petroleum jelly (Vaseline).
|
5.
|
Turn the sensor until that the line marked on it is visible in the centre of the tool's notch and tighten the bolts.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)
Refit the fluid filler pipe.
Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)

6.
|
Remove the tool and refit the lever. Before tightening the nut, move the selector lever to position P (to relieve the cable of tension).
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)
|
7.
|
Fit the battery tray, the battery and the battery cover. Connect and secure the cables.
|
8.
|
Check that the engine starts when the selector lever is in positions P and N. The engine should not start if the selector lever is in position R, D, 3, 2 or 1. The reversing light should light up only in position R.

9.
|
Set the right time on the clock.

|
On cars with a shift-lock function, incorrect adjustment of the gear selector position sensor could result in disablement of this function (SHIFT-LOCK).

Move the selector lever to position 1 (to relieve the cable of tension) and undo the lever's nut.

3.
|
Move the selector lever to position N, remove the selector lever cable's lever and fit tool 87 92 467.
Check that the line marked on the gear selector position sensor is visible in the centre of the tool's notch.

If it is not, the sensor must be adjusted. Continue with step 4.
|
|
•
|
If it is, continue with step 9.
|
4.
|
Clean round the fluid filler pipe where it enters the transmission.
|
5.
|
Remove the fluid filler pipe's nut and remove the pipe.
|
6.
|
Undo the gear selector position sensor's bolts.
|
7.
|
Turn the sensor until that the line marked on it is visible in the centre of the tool's notch and tighten the bolts.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

8.
|
Clean and lubricate the fluid filler pipe's O-ring with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) and fit the fluid filler pipe.
Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)

9.
|
Remove the tool and fit the selector lever cable's lever.
Before tightening the nut, move the selector lever to position P (to relieve the cable of tension).
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

10.
|
Refit the battery tray, battery and battery cover.
|
11.
|
Check that the engine starts when the selector lever is in positions P and N. The engine should not start if the selector lever is in position R, D, 3, 2 or 1. The reversing light should light up only in position R.

12.
|
Set the right time on the clock.
