For all work on drive shafts and universal joints, the utmost cleanliness must be observed to avoid dirt and dust getting into the universal joints. Surfaces around the drive shafts and universal joints must therefore be thoroughly cleaned before work is started. |

To dismantle |
1. |
Check that the shaft and gaiter are clean. Secure the drive shaft in a vice.

2. |
Undo the outer universal joint clips and push the gaiter some way up the shaft.
|
3. |
Remove grease from the universal joint.
|
4. |
Tap off the universal joint using a plastic hammer.

To assemble |
1. |
Fit a new rubber gaiter on shaft.
|
2. |
Fill the universal joint with 120g of special grease part no. (16) 87 81 676, see
|
3. |
Press the drive shaft into the universal joint.
|
4. |
Place the new rubber gaiter in the correct position and fit new clips.
|
Cleaning |
1. |
Turn the bearing so that the steel balls can be removed.
|
2. |
Turn the inner cage for the steel balls so that it can be removed from the outer cage.
|
3. |
Lift out the outer cage.
|
4. |
Wipe balls and other parts clean.
|
5. |
Place the outer cage in the universal joint.
|
6. |
Place the inner cage in the outer cage and turn it so that the steel balls can be positioned.
|
7. |
Press in each ball.
|
