Universal joints
Universal joints |
The inner universal joint is of tripode type and consists of housing and tripod. The tripod has three rollers mounted in needle bearings and can be moved axially in the tripod housing.
The outer universal joint transmits engine torque from drive shaft to hub and wheel. The outer drive shaft has a journal which connects to the hub with splines. The joint is of Rzeppa type and is shaped like a bell with spherical grooves where six balls transfer the drive from the drive shaft to the hub.
The drive shaft is linked to the outer universal joint with splines and is secured axially with a circlip. The universal joint is permanently greased and protected by a gaiter. The joint is only lubricated when the gaiter is changed or when the joint is dismantled for some other reason.
