Cars in stock must be remedied before delivery.

A personal communication must be sent to the owners of cars already delivered requesting them to get in touch with the nearest Saab garage as soon as possible to have the nonconformity rectified.

Cars affected

Saab 9-5 M00 within the VIN interval Y3073405-Y3074798

Background

The surface treatment of the nuts securing the ball joint of the steering swivel member to the wishbone can be incorrect which could mean that the fasteners are over tightened. This could result in the bolts breaking.

Symptom description

The fasteners for the ball joint, steering swivel member and wishbone are over tightened.

Parts required

43 48 330 Bolt (x6)

43 48 355 Nut (x6)

Procedure

Check box A3 of the modification identity plate before preceding. Continue as follows if the box has not been marked.

1. Position the car so that work can be performed without the car being lifted.

Important

To avoid additional wheel alignment, make sure that the body is not lifted but that the weight of the car is on the wheels as normal.

2. Remove one of the bolts securing the ball joint to the wishbone.

Important

Each nut and bolt must be properly tightened before the next one is removed. Do not remove more than one nut and bolt at a time.

Fit a new nut and bolt.

Tightening torque 30 Nm (22.5 lbf ft) + 90°

3. Repeat this procedure for the remaining two bolts on this side.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the car.

Important

If you suspect that the ball joint has moved, the wheel alignment must be checked.

Marking the modification identity plate

On completion of the necessary rectification, box A3 on the modification identity plate must be marked. If the work is carried out by the importer, mark the box with a "7". If done by the dealer, mark it with an "8".
