Temperature

Both knobs are each connected to potentiometers which are supplied with current internally from the control module. The potentiometers deliver a voltage to the control module's internal inputs which increases when the knob is turned clockwise. The values are A/D converted. A table stored in the control module's memory contains information on the air-mixing position to use for a certain A/D value.

Air distribution

The knob is connected to a potentiometer which is supplied with current internally form the control module. The potentiometer delivers a voltage to the control module's internal input which increases as the knob is turned clockwise. The value is A/D converted.

A table stored in the control module's memory contains information on the air distribution position to use for a certain A/D value.

Fan

The knob is connected to a potentiometer which is supplied with current internally from the control module. The potentiometer has 5 fixed positions and delivers a voltage to the control module's internal input which increases when the knob is turned clockwise. The value is A/D converted.

A table stored in the control module's memory contains information on the voltage to be sent to the fan control unit for a certain A/D value.

Air recirculation

The button is read by the control module which supplies current to a DC motor that drives the air recirculation flap. The motor is active for 10 s. The function can be activated when the ignition is on or when the parking heater is operating.

The button is supplied from +15 and the parking heater input. An LED indicates that air recirculation is engaged.

Electrically heated rear window

The button switches the electrically heated rear window on and off. When the heated rear window is switched on, the control module sends a request for it to be activated by supplying a 200 ms B+ pulse from pin 16 to DICE. When DICE grounds the rear window heater relay, the MCC control module also grounds pin 17, whereby the LED indicating the function lights up.

Diagnostics

If the button jams, diagnostic trouble code 8 is generated. A stored diagnostic trouble code is flashed six times in succession by the LED for the electrically heated rear window if the button is depressed while turning on the ignition, and for a further 2 seconds after that.

A/C

If the ventilation fan is on and the button depressed, B+ is supplied from pin 15 to DICE. An LED indicates that B+ has been sent. DICE requests TRIONIC to engage A/C. Note that DICE has several inhibitor conditions for the A/C function.
