SAHR

The front seats are fitted with SAHR (Saab Active Head Restraint) as standard. SAHR reduces the risk of neck injuries and whiplash during low-speed collisions from behind.

SAHR is a mechanical system activated by the body weight, the body position and the force of the collision. It consists of a structure built into the upper part of the backrest, which is connected to the head restraint.

The system is activated in case of a collision from the rear at relatively low speeds, around 17 km/h.

In the event of a collision from the rear, the car and front seat accelerate forwards which means that the driver/passengers slide back in relation to the seat. The lower part of the structure in the backrest is pushed back by the body weight, so the upper part together with the connected head restraint is pushed forward/up. This reduces the relative movement of the body in relation to the head and the whiplash effect is diminished.

The height of the head restraint is adjustable in order to obtain the best possible protection irrespective of whether the occupant is short or tall. Safety and legal requirements prevent being able to press down the restraint all the way to the backrest.
