Read the instructions below then start the fault diagnostic procedure.

Symptom: Limited engine speed. CHECK ENGINE. Idling speed incorrect Cruise control not working. Starting problems, especially when engine is cold

Faulty signal from accelerator position sensor.

Fault symptoms

•	Limited engine speed.

•	CHECK ENGINE.

•	Idling speed incorrect

•	Cruise control not working.

•	Starting problems, especially when engine is cold

On-Board Diagnostics

Type of diagnosis:

-	Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.

Enable criteria:

-	Ignition in ON position

Fault criteria:

-	Sum of voltages from pedal position sensors 1 and 2 exceeding 5.55V or below 4.45V.

Dependents:

-

None.

System reaction to a fault:

-	Fuel shut-off at engine speeds above 2200 rpm. Throttle control in limp-home. Limp-home solenoid will be activated 5 times in succession each time the ignition is switched on until the fault has been repaired and the diagnostic trouble codes cleared.

OK report:

-	Accelerator pedal has been depressed at some time and then fully released. 120 s has expired since then without fault criteria being fulfilled.

Fault handling: (See “Fault diagnosis, general” for more information.)

-	CHECK ENGINE goes on immediately and can be turned off only by clearing the trouble codes.

Diagnostic help

Fault diagnosis concerns electrical fault in connecting leads or in one of the sensors.

Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:

•	Pedal Position Sensor 1, unit V.

•	Pedal Position Sensor 2, unit V.

Checking the wiring

Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short circuits. Observe the multimeter, diagnostic tool or test lamp during the check.
