P0118
Read the instructions below then
start the fault diagnostic procedure.
Symptom: CHECK ENGINE.
A/C not working.
Radiator fan runs continuously when ignition is ON.
Temperature gauge reading incorrect.
Possible misfiring before DTC is generated.
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit. Short to B+ / Open circuit.

On-Board Diagnostics
Type of diagnosis:
-
|
Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.
|
Enable criteria:
Fault criteria:
-
|
Voltage higher than 4.910 V for more than 1 s.
|
Dependents:
System reaction to a fault:
-
|
A substitute value is calculated continuously as follows: Starting intake air temperature is incremented with 1°C per 60 g air mass/s. The value is maximized to 90°C and is used as soon as fault criteria for the sensor are fulfilled.
|
OK report:
-
|
P0116 Test 1 and Test 2 performed once and fault criteria not fulfilled. Fault criteria for P0117 or P0118 not fulfilled.
|
Fault handling:

Fault handling III, other emission-related components and functions
for more information.)
Diagnostic help
Fault diagnosis concerns electrical faults in connected leads or in the sensor.
Diagnostic tool functions related to this fault are:
•
|
Diagnostic status for the diagnosis.
|
•
|
Temperature sensor reading, unit °C.

Check the wiring
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
