Warning

If the passenger airbag has been disconnected, check that the customer has a valid contract for the disconnected airbag and that a warning label with the text "Passenger airbag disconnected" is clearly visible on the dashboard.

Note

If the car is equipped with a radio other than a genuine Saab radio, check that the customer has the radio code before starting any work.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

1. Mark all the connectors accurately before unplugging them from their respective components.

2. Undo:

Fuse box at end of dashboard

expansion tank and tilt it forward

cover on front RH A-pillar and headlining

gear lever carrier

centre panel and floor console

3. Remove:

RH front seat

instrument plate and switch connectors

glove box

cover on RH C-pillar

4. Disconnect the cables on the grounding points.

5. Unplug the connectors to the other wiring harnesses.

6. Carefully remove the wiring harness without damaging cable ties, etc., that are to be refitted.

7. Lay out the new wiring harness and the main fuse and relay boxes the same as the old ones and secure them in the same way. Make sure all grommets seal tightly.

8. Plug in the connectors to their respective components. If in doubt refer to wiring diagrams/component lists for the respective system.

Important

On cars with a manual gearbox and for all markets with the exception of US/CA the connector for the clutch starter inhibitor switch must be bridged. Otherwise the car will not start.

9. LHD: On cars without OnStar, telephone connector 375 and the 2-pin connector 619 must be unplugged.

10. Plug in the connectors.

11. To minimise the number of spare part harnesses, there are a number of extra connectors at the connector bracket below the LH A-pillar. The following connections may need to be made:

Cars with ACC: Connect the black 10-pin connector to the corresponding orange one.

Cars with MCC: Connect the black 10-pin connector to the corresponding green one.

Cars without rain sensor: Connect both 4-pin connectors to each other.

12. Connect the ground cables.

13. Refit the instrument plate and connect the switches.

14. Connect the negative battery cable. Set the clock and program the radio code where applicable.

Important

Secure the wiring harness to prevent the risk of chafing and rattling.

Check all rubber seals to minimize the risk of leakage.

Note

Spray all the connectors with “Kontakt 61” to prevent copper rust from forming. Clean and apply Vaseline to all the grounding points.
