Suspension arm

To remove



1. Raise the car.

If a jack is used, safety stands should be placed under the car.

2. Remove the front wheel.

3. Remove the rear suspension arm mounting from the subframe.

4. Remove the front suspension arm mounting from the subframe.

5. Remove the ball joint from the steering swivel member.

Note

If the ball joint is firmly seated, use a screwdriver to prise apart the slit in the steering swivel member.


6. Remove the ball joint and the rear bush from the suspension arm.



To fit



1. Fit Suspension arm bush, front

2. Fit the rear bush in line with the suspension arm. If the suspension arm has been changed to M02 or newer version, the bush must also be M02 or newer.

Tightening torque, M12 75 Nm (55 lbf ft)

Tightening torque, M14 105 Nm (77 lbf ft)

3. Fit the ball joint to the suspension arm.

Tightening torque, M8 30 Nm +90° (22 lbf ft +90°)

Tightening torque, M10 60 Nm +30° (44 lbf ft +30°)

4. Fit the ball joint to the steering swivel member, insert the bolt securing the steering swivel member to the ball joint and screw on the nut. Make sure that the bolt fits in the milled recess on the ball joint shaft.

Warning

Make sure that the journal on the ball joint sticks up above the steering swivel member mounting.


5. Position the suspension arm against the subframe and insert the bolts in the front and rear attachment points.

6. The suspension arm mountings on the subframe must be tightened when the car is standing on its wheels. However, depending on the type of car lift, one of the following methods can be used instead.

Position a high-lift jack under the ball joint and jack it up until the suspension arm is 1° below the horizontal.

Place a stand or the like under the ball joint and lower the car until the suspension arm is 1° below the horizontal.

Tighten the suspension arm mountings to the subframe.

Tightening torque 95 Nm (70 lbf ft)

7. Tighten the bolt securing the ball joint to the steering swivel member.

Tightening torque 95 Nm (70 lbf ft)

8. Remove the jack.

9. Fit the wheel, see Wheels .

Tightening torques

aluminium wheel 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

steel wheel 50 Nm + 2x90°, max. 110 Nm (37 lbf ft + 2x90°, max. 81 lbf ft)

10. Lower the car to the floor.

11. Tighten the bolts securing the suspension arm to the subframe if this has not already been done.

Tightening torque 95 Nm (70 lbf ft)

12. Check the toe-in and adjust if necessary, see Adjustment of front wheel toe-in .
