In-storage care is obligatory for new cars and must be carried out at intervals of a maximum of 60 days in accordance with instructions in WIS, see WIS - Service - Saab Service - In-storage car care. The condition of the battery must be checked
at least once per month
in accordance with the following instructions.
Checking the battery
Checking the battery must be carried out using Battery Analyser 311.

Switch off all power consumers and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.

Remove the battery cover.
Note
|
The battery acid level is indicated by means of a checking window on the battery which displays white at low level. A sufficiently high acid level is indicated as black in the battery checking window.
|
|

|
Check the battery acid level. The battery cannot be refilled with battery acid and must be replaced in the event that the acid level is too low.
|

|
If the battery is connected to the car:
Remove maxi fuse 4 from the electrical centre for maxi fuses. Wait at least 20 seconds before the battery tester is connected.

|
Connect the red cable clamp to the positive terminal (+). (Incorrect polarity does not damage the analyser.)
|
6.
|
Connect the black cable clamp to the negative terminal (-). Make sure that the cable clamps make as good contact as possible. Follow the instructions on the analyser's display.

When both of the clamps are connected the analyser is activated automatically. For a detailed description of how the analyser is used, refer to the manual for the analyser.

At “SELECT TEST” specify whether the battery is connected to the car's electrical system (“IN VEHICLE”) or not (“OUT-OF-VEHICLE”).

|
At “BATTERY TYPE” select whether the battery is a factory-fitted (“SAAB BATTERY”) or a replacement battery of another manufacture (“NON-SAAB”).

|
Confirm “SELECT TEST BY SAE(A)” if the battery's cold-starting current is specified to CCA(SAE) standard. Select and confirm “SELECT TEST BY DIN (A)” for batteries specified to DIN standard.
Important
|
CCA(SAE) is always applicable to Saab factory-fitted batteries.
|
|
DIN standard can be specified when the analyser is used to check replacement batteries that are not specified to SAE.
|
10.

Enter the specified cold-starting current for the battery in question.
For Saab factory-fitted batteries, this value can be found in large characters on the label on top of the battery.
The battery check will be started automatically as soon as a value has been selected and confirmed.

“SELECT MODE AFTER CHARGE”
Under certain conditions between measured voltage and conductance, the analyser will need to know if the test is being performed before or after charging the battery in order to correctly assess the battery.

Note down the test code if the analyser indicates that the battery needs replacement within the warranty period. The test code from this measurement should then be included on the warranty claim (see Warranty policy for more information).
Important
|
Check also the replacement battery with Battery Analyser 311 before fitting in the car. If the replacement battery cold-starting current is not specified to SAE standard, select the DIN standard test in step 9 above.

If the battery is connected to the car:
Fit maxi fuse 4.
|
13.
|
Fit the battery cover.
|
14.
|
Detach the negative cable from the battery or remove the battery for charging.
|
15.
|
Fill in the battery card.
