Cars in stock must be rectified before delivery.

Saab 9-5 M02 with D308L engine within VIN range 23000132 - 23058970.

Important

Only cars in stock to be remedied.

MI 210-2373 must be carried out before this service campaign.

MI 644-2374, 210-2365, 232-2370, 248-2369 and 410-2373 must be carried out after this service campaign.

If the car has to be transported before MI 210-2373 and this service campaign are carried out then the engine must not be revved as there is a risk of serious engine damage.

Background

Initial lubrication of the valve stems has not been carried out during production. If the engine is revved without this lubrication then it can result in the valves jamming and the valve shims loosening, which in turn leads to serious engine damage.

Symptoms

Engine damage when revving up

Procedure

The car should preferably be towed to the service point. Make sure that the car has sufficient fuel before the lubrication procedure is carried out. The warning lamp for fuel must not light up.

1. Switch off all current-demanding components/systems, such as lighting, AC/ACC, the audio system, electrically heated seats and seat ventilation. The cooling fans must not be disconnected.

2. Apply the handbrake and connect the exhaust extractor.

3. Start the engine and run it with engine speed and times as per the table below.

In order to reach the different engine speeds and hold the accelerator pedal in the corresponding positions, use one of the following alternatives:

a brake pedal clamp (included in wheel checking equipment).

a round pole approx. 90 cm long or similar and a holed plate as per the illustration.

a handle, round or square pole, approx. 135 cm, which is fitted to a protective cover on the backrest in order to avoid damaging the upholstery.

The electrically adjustable seat controls, or the backrest adjustment knob on cars without electrically adjustable seats, can be used in order to change the engine speed via the pole or the brake pedal clamp.

4. Check that the engine speed is constant at every running sequence.

5. Reset the car after the procedure.
