Crankcase ventilation, V6


The engine's crankcase ventilation is completely sealed. Crankcase gases that form are led from the two cylinder banks to a common chamber located between the two. From this chamber the gases are led via a hose to the timing cover. A chamber in the timing cover separates the oil from the crankcase gases.

The oil is led back to the sump while the gases are led to an outlet valve. This outlet valve comprises a membrane and a spring. If the pressure of the crankcase gases increases, the valve opens and allows the gases to pass into the intake pipe between the mass air flow sensor and turbocharger, from which they flow on to the engine's combustion chamber where they are burnt.
