Type of diagnosis
Continuously during the running of the pump. Is however interrupted when the fault criteria have been fulfilled.Enable criteria
General conditions for this DTC: secondary air injection is activated.Conditions for main test: Engine speed between 640-1600 rpm. Air mass quantity per combustion 100-350 mg/comb. Battery voltage above 11 volts. Oxygen sensor 1 active. Idling. 200 combustions have taken place.
Conditions thorough test: Coolant temperature above 82°C. Throttle body open. Engine speed between 1300-2100 rpm. Engine load between 170-260 mg/comb. Fuel adaptation between -3% and +4%. Purging valve open. SAI pump activated for more than 3.3 s. Vehicle speed above 38 km/h.
When the above conditions have been fulfilled the diagnosis will start:
Main test: The main test is performed while secondary air supply is in progress. Diagnosis monitors fuel adaptation for the conditions of the oxygen sensor that correspond to a rich fuel/air mixture. If fuel adaptation exceeds set limits, the test below is requested (thorough test). If the main test is interrupted, for example due to an increase in engine speed, the test below is requested (thorough test).
Thorough test: The thorough test is carried out while the secondary air supply is in progress, the extra fuel supply should be inactive however. The diagnosis again supervises the condition of the oxygen sensor and checks the fuel adaptation against set limits.
Fault criteria
Diagnostic trouble codes are generated, during the thorough test, when fuel adaptation is below the set limits.Diagnostic help
Fault diagnosis concerns electrical faults in connecting cables, relays or an air flow fault in the pipe connections.Diagnostic tool functions related to this fault are:
• |
Activation of SAI pump.
|
• |
Activation of diagnostics, secondary air injection.

Check the wiring
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
