System overview, B235E/R

Brief description

The exhaust system is designed to divert the engine exhaust gases and provide low flow resistance, low noise level and long service life. It consists of two sections, the front with two catalytic converters and the rear with two silencers. Both silencers are combined resonance and absorption silencers.

The exhaust system is corrosion-protected as the front pipe, connecting pipe between the silencers and the silencers themselves are made of stainless 12% chrome steel. The outer casing is aluminized. All joints are of the flange type without gaskets, for ease of changing and ensuring a good fit.

The exhaust system is rubber-mounted at nine points. To ensure good ground clearance it runs through a channel in the floor pan.

When replacing the rear silencer, the system should be severed ahead of the rear silencer and a new silencer fitted. The system will then have an additional joint.

Heat shields

Heat shields are fitted over the exhaust system's hottest zones to protect exposed areas from heat radiation from the exhaust system.
