Ejector reservoir, fuel tank V6
Ejector reservoir, fuel tank V6 |
The ejector fills the container from which the diesel pump draws fuel. An ejector is basically a cylinder with three ports, one at each end an one in the cylinder wall.
When fuel flows through the cylinder (in at one end and out the other), negative pressure is created at the hole in the cylinder wall. This negative pressure is used to draw fuel from the fuel tank and keep the container full. This means that as soon as the engine is started, the ejector starts to fill the container so that there is always a supply of fuel on the suction side.
Since the fuel injection pump's feed pump draws fuel from the container, the supply of fuel is ensured during cornering and acceleration even when there are only small amounts of fuel in the tank.
