Fault symptom

Engine stalls or engine does not start

Conditions

The following conditions apply for the current fault symptom:


DTC P1653 is generated after the engine stalls several times in a row or after several consecutive violent jerks, or

The main relay clicks noisily several times with the ignition key in the ON position. PSG16 cannot be contacted with Tech 2.


Diagnostic help

The reason behind the above symptom can be a poor ground connection between the throttle body bolts and the throttle body that reduces the functionality of the ECM.

Diagnostic procedure

Move the ground cable G7 from the throttle body to one of the bolts on the EGR valve.

Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)
