Saab 9-5 M02 with VIN:
23000343 23000373 23000404 23000409 23005376 23005560 23005678 23005710 23005740 23005742 23005744 23006095 23006304 23006420 23006470 23006548 23006552 23006884 23007046 23007294 23007314 23007392 23007484 23007500 23007510 23007582 23007586 23007620 23007646 23007675 23007699 23007710 23007719 23007835
In cars with the aforementioned VINs, EVAP diagnostics is not performed frequently enough to comply with legal requirements. Therefore, new software has been produced to remedy this.
39 40 23 SPS version 14.0, Tech2 version 42.500
Software:
53 83 245 (B235E)
53 83 252 (B235R)
53 83 260 (B308E)
Check box C5 on the modification identity plate before taking any action. Continue as follows if the box is not marked.
Update the software using SPS programming. Follow the instructions below.
•
Check that the computer to be used contains Tech2 and TIS 2000 in the latest edition and with the correct version for reprogramming.
•
Before beginning, check the status of the battery. This is done with Battery tester 86 12 533 (EU) or 86 12 525 (US). Perform the measures indicated by the battery tester. Avoid charging the battery while carrying out SPS as it could disrupt reprogramming.
•
Read and note the car VIN and carefully follow the instructions below to ensure successful results.
1.
Connect Tech2 to the data link connector and turn the ignition key to the ON position.
2.
Start Tech2 and read out any DTCs from all systems. Save and note the DTCs.
3.
Go back to the main menu and select: Service Programming System (SPS).
4.
Select: Request Information.
5.
Select: Model year: -02, Car type: 9-5, Group: Engine, System: Trionic.
6.
Then follow the directions given on Tech2.
7.
Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position and disconnect Tech2 from the car. Connect Tech2 with SPS hardware lock to the computer's COM port (flat cable).
8.
Then follow the directions given on the computer.
9.
Start SPS programming, comparing the VIN. Go to step 2. Check that the version number of the computer software matches that specified in this MI (or is a later version). Download the software to Tech2.
10.
Once the download is complete, disconnect Tech2 from the computer and reconnect it to the car.
11.
Open the bonnet and unplug both fan connectors at the cowling.
12.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
Note
Turn off all high current consuming components/systems:
- Lighting
- AC/ACC
- Audio system
- Electrically heated seats
- Seating ventilation
13.
Start Tech2 and select: Service Programming System (SPS).
15.
Follow the directions on Tech2.
16.
Wait until the entire reprogramming sequence is complete. Duration: approx. 20 minutes.
17.
When "Programming successful" shows in Tech2, reprogramming is complete:
Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position
Plug in the fan connectors.
18.
Read out DTCs from all systems. Compare with any DTCs read at step 2 before SPS programming. If new DTCs are set, they were generated in connection with programming, which may happen. Clear the DTCs in all systems. Remedy any DTCs that were read at step 2 after agreement with the customer. Then follow the fault diagnosis in WIS.
19.
Connect the car to an exhaust ventilator and check that the engine starts. Switch off the engine.
20.
Disconnect Tech2 and refit the data link connector cover.
Marking the modification identity plate
Mark box C5 on the modification identity plate after performing this procedure. Mark with the number "7" if the procedure has been performed by the importer or with the number "8" if performed by the dealer.
