Maximum permissible torque

Maximum permissible torque

In order to ensure smoother shifting and minimize wear on the transmission, the TCM continuously sends information “maximum torque”, unit Nm, to the Trionic system on the bus.

As the transmission is designed to withstand a maximum engine torque of 350 Nm (B235R), 310 Nm (B235E and B308E), and 280 Nm (B205E), the TCM normally sends bus information “Maximum engine torque 350, 310 or 280 Nm” but for certain gear shifts, especially during rapid acceleration, the TCM will request a lower “maximum engine torque” for the short time during which shifting occurs.

The Trionic system uses the information in its mass air flow control circuit for torque limitation.
