Drive shaft, RH

To remove


1. Remove the RH wheel.

2. V6 diesel: Remove the lower engine cover.


3. Remove the protective cap from the hub centre-nut (up to MY03).


4. Remove the hub centre nut.

5. Remove any fasteners for the headlamp position sensor (option). Push the sensor to one side.


6. Remove the right-hand side cover.


7. Remove the screw securing the ball joint to the steering swivel member. Prise loose and lower the suspension arm. Secure it in this position with a block of wood placed between the suspension arm and the anti-roll bar.


8. Undo the clip for the brake hose and the mountings for the ABS lead.

9. Pull out the universal joint splines from the wheel hub.

10. Pull back the MacPherson strut and fasten it with 83 95 212 Strap to facilitate removing the drive shaft.

11. Tap out the drive shaft from the intermediate shaft using a hammer and brass drift.

Important

Exercise caution; make sure that the tripod does not come loose from the inboard universal joint driver (aut).


Warning

Use protective goggles to protect against flying splinters of metal.



To fit


1. Tilt out the MacPherson strut and connect the drive shaft to the hub.

2. Make sure the drive shaft is clean and then position it in the intermediate shaft. Lubricate the shaft splines with 90 513 210 Universal paste .


3. Make sure the drive shaft reaches its end position in the wheel hub. Fit the ball joint to the steering swivel member and tighten.

Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 lbf ft)

Warning

Make sure the ball joint journal is visible above the steering swivel member before fitting the bolt.


4. Fit the right-hand side cover.


5. Fit any fasteners for the headlamp position sensor (option).


6. V6 diesel: Fit the lower engine cover.


7. Fit the brake hose to the bracket on the steering swivel member and fit the clips as well as the two mountings for the ABS lead.


8. Fit the wheel loosely and lower the car.

9. Tighten the hub centre-nut. Always use a new nut

Tightening torque 230 Nm (170 lbf ft)

10. Raise the car and remove the wheel. Fit the protective cap to the hub centre-nut (up to MY03).

11. Fit the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts. See Wheels

Tightening torque 110 Nm (80 lbf ft)

Important

The wheel must hang freely when the wheel bolts are being tightened.
