Checking and adjusting the gear position



1. Engage 4th gear.


2. Remove the plastic plug from the gearbox and insert 87 92 335 Locking pin so that the 4th gear is locked.

3. Lift up the gear lever boot and check that 87 92 632 Locking pin (from and including M99) or 87 92 335 Locking pin (from and including M98) can be inserted down into the hole in the gear lever housing.


If the locking pin cannot be inserted, the gear position needs to be adjusted. The adjustment is done according to section 4-10 below. Remove the locking pins if no adjustment is to be done.

4. From above, undo the clamp which holds the selector rod in the gearbox linkage.


5. Check that the gear lever is positioned in 4th gear.

6. Insert 87 92 335 Locking pin (to and including M98) or 87 92 632 Locking pin (from and including M99) in the gear lever housing.

7. Tighten the nut on the clamp which holds the selector rod in the gearbox linkage.

Tightening torque 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)

8. Take out the locking pin from the gearbox and replace the plastic plug.

9. Remove the locking pin from the gear lever housing and replace the boot.

10. Check that all gears can be engaged and that the key can be removed when in reverse.
