Transfer of force from the gear lever to the gearbox is via a linkage which transmits both torsional and shear forces with the least possible friction to achieve low shifting force.
The car is equipped with a gear lever lock which means that the gear lever is locked in the reverse position when the key is removed from the ignition switch.
