Cars already delivered must be rectified in connection with a scheduled visit to the workshop for service or repairs.

Background

Due to a defective production process the plastic sleeves on some bushes cracked when they were pressed into the subframe.

Symptom description

Jarring sounds occur in the front assembly.



Parts required

For changing the bush

52 31 808 Bush F-Subframe, centre, 1-2 pcs

51 25 745 Bolt 2 pcs

43 48 512 Nut 2 pcs

Procedure

Check box A5 of the modification identity plate before proceeding. Continue as follows if the box has not been marked.


1. Raise the car.

2. Check the bush's plastic sleeve around the edge as well as within the opening on each side of the bush.


Is the plastic cracked or deformed?

3. If NO

3.a. Lower the car.

4. If YES

Change the bush according to the following instructions.

4.a. Remove the subframe.

Petrol-engined cars: See WIS - Suspension, wheels - Front suspension - Adjustment/Replacement - Subframe, petrol engine - To remove.

Diesel-engined cars: See WIS - Suspension, wheels - Front suspension - Adjustment/Replacement - Subframe, V6 diesel engine - To remove.

4.b. Remove the bush using 89 96 779 Press sleeve kit, front assembly.

C: KM-907-30

4.c. Smear the bush with soapy water and fit using 89 96 779 Press sleeve kit, front assembly.

4.d. Fit the subframe.

Diesel-engined cars: See WIS - Suspension, wheels - Front suspension - Adjustment/Replacement - Subframe, V6 diesel engine - To fit.


Marking the modification identity plate

On completion of the necessary rectification, box A5 on the modification identity plate must be marked. If the work is carried out by the importer, mark the box with a "7". If carried out by the dealer, mark it with an "8".
