Coolant level sensor
Coolant level sensor |
The coolant level sensor is moulded into the bottom of the coolant expansion tank. The sensor fits into the hollow pillar on the underside of the tank.
The SID unit supplies the level sensor with B+ via pin 18, and the sensor is grounded to grounding point G42 or G40 (LHD and RHD respectively). At normal coolant levels, the float arm is level with the contact. The magnet in the float arm then closes the circuit and pin 18 of the SID unit is grounded. When the level of coolant is low the circuit breaks.
The function generates a CHECK message on the SID unit (30 second delay). For further information refer to CHECK messages .
Diagnostics |
If there is an open circuit to the coolant level sensor the text message “FILL COOLANT FLUID” is displayed, even if the fluid level is correct.
If the circuit is shorted to ground, the CHECK message will not be shown even if the coolant fluid level is low.
The SID unit does not generate any fault codes.
