Temperature sensor, engine oil
The task of the temperature sensor is to inform the engine control module of the existing engine oil temperature.
The connections for the temperature sensor are:
1.
Signal, engine oil temperature: Pin 1 of the temperature sensor is connected to pin 21 of the engine control module
2.
Sensor ground: Pin 2 of the temperature sensor is connected to pin 33 of the engine control module
The engine oil temperature sensor is located on the front of the oil pan. The sensor is type NTC and if fed 5 V by the engine control module.
Temperature sensor resistance changes with the temperature; sensor resistance is as follows:
20°C (68°F)
2500 Ohm 6%
100°C (212°F)
186 Ohm 6%
If the oil temperature sensor is shorted to B+, DTC P0198 is generated.
If the oil temperature sensor is shorted to ground, DTC P0197 is generated.
One minute after the engine is started, a check of the oil temperature sensor is ordered. The temperature is then compared with the coolant temperature. When coolant temperature reaches 80°C , the value is stabilised for 3 minutes. If the oil temperature has not reached 50°C by the end of the 3 minutes, DTC P0196 is generated.

If a DTC is generated, the substitute value +100°C is used.
•
For DTC P0198, the read value on the diagnostic instrument is +100°C.

•
For DTC P0197, the read value on the diagnostic instrument is +100°C.
