Injectors

Warning

Removal of the fuel rail involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Work only in a well-ventilated area! If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapour is available, be sure to use it.

Wear suitable gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel can cause skin irritation or dermatitis.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher near at hand! Be mindful of the danger of sparks, i.e. in connection with circuit breaking , short circuiting, etc.

No smoking anywhere in the vicinity,

Wear protective goggles.

To remove

Important

Scrupulous cleanliness is of the utmost importance when working on the fuel rail and injectors. Blow clean with compressed air.

1. Reduce fuel pressure by removing fuel pump fuse no. 19 while the engine is idling. Turn off the ignition once the engine has stopped and replace the fuse.

2. Remove the engine cover.

3. Detach the turbo pressure hose from the throttle body.

4. Detach the throttle cable from the throttle disc and remove the throttle body from the intake manifold. Lift away the throttle body carefully.

5. Remove the upper intake manifold. Plug the passageways to prevent dirt from entering.

6. Detach the wires from the fuel rail.

7. Detach the fuel connections. Keep an absorbent cloth or paper nearby to take care of any fuel spills.

8. Detach the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator.

9. Blow clean around the valves with compressed air and remove the fuel rail and injectors.

Important

Secure each injector clip with a narrow cable tie. Make sure that it is correctly fitted and then tighten it. If this is not done, the injectors could come loose from the fuel rail during the flow test.

10. Plug the holes for the injectors.

To fit

Note

Apply non-acidic vaseline to the O-rings to assist fitting.

1. If necessary, fit new O-rings to the injectors. Remove the plugs from the injector holes and fit the fuel rail and injectors.

2. Connect the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator.

3. Connect the fuel connections.

4. Secure the wiring to the fuel rail.

5. Remove the plugs from the passageways in the intake manifold and fit a new gasket. Fit the upper intake manifold.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14.8 lbf ft)

6. Fit the throttle body. If necessary, fit a new seal. Attach the throttle cable. Inspect the cable and adjust if necessary.

7. Connect the turbo pressure hose.

8. Start the engine and perform an integrity check.

9. Fit the engine cover.
