Replacement of ABS ring |
To remove |
1. |
Raise the car and remove the wheel.

2. |
Up to and including M03:
Remove hub nut dust cap (A).
|
3. |
Remove the hub nut (B)
|
4. |
Undo the clips for the brake hose (C) and the ABS cable mountings
|
6. |
Remove the drive joint from the wheel hub. Use the
89 96 951 Drive Shaft Puller
tool.

7. |
Fold out the spring strut.
|
8. |
Remove the drive joint from the wheel hub; the inner drive joint should remain in the gearbox or intermediate shaft. Pull the spring strut towards the rear and secure using the
83 95 212 Strap
.

9. |
Suspend the drive shaft with the
83 95 212 Strap
and remove the broken ABS ring.
|
10. |
Remove the rust from the drive joint using emery cloth.
|
To fit |
1. |
Spread
90 297 970 Flange sealant
onto the drive joint and the inside of the ring.
|
2. |
Install the ring onto the drive joint; use a plastic mallet.
|
3. |
Fold out the spring strut and connect the drive shaft to the hub.
|
4. |
Make sure that the drive shaft is in its lowest position in the wheel hub. Install the ball joint, bolt (A) and nut in the steering swivel member and tighten.
Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 lbf ft)

5. |
Install the brake hose (C) into the mounting on the steering swivel member, and install the locking clips and mountings for the ABS cable.

6. |
Fit the wheel loosely and lower the car.
|
7. |
Tighten the hub nut (B). Always use a new nut.
Tightening torque: 230 Nm (170 lbf ft) |
8. |
Up to and including M03:
Raise the vehicle and remove the wheel. Install the hub nut dust cap (A).

9. |
Fit the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts. Refer to
Wheels
.
Tightening torque 110 Nm (80 lbf ft) |
10. |
Lower the car.
