To remove


1. Remove the engine cover and undo the two upper oil filter housing bolts.

2. Raise the car and remove the lower engine cover.

3. Place a receptacle under the engine, pinch together the coolant hoses using 30 07 739 Hose pinch-off pliers and detach the coolant hoses from the oil filter housing.

4. Remove the two oil filter housing bolts and take off the oil filter housing from the cylinder block.

5. Undo the bolts and remove the heat exchanger.



To fit



1. Clean any gasket remains from the sealing surfaces.

2. Position the heat exchanger with O-ring and tighten the bolts.

3. Fit the oil filter housing with a new gasket and screw in the two upper bolts without tightening them.

4. Tighten the two lower oil filter housing bolts.


Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft).

5. Connect the coolant hoses to the oil filter housing and remove the pinch-off pliers.

6. Fit the lower engine cover.

7. Lower the car and tighten the two upper oil filter housing bolts.


Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft).

Fit the engine cover.

8. Check the oil level. Top up as necessary.

9. Fill with coolant, check the system for leaks and bleed the system as follows:

AC/ACC must be turned off.


Connect exhaust hoses to both engine exhaust systems and the auxiliary heater exhaust system and start the engine.

Start the parking heater with the diagnostic tool (Body, SID, Activate, Heater). The parking heater will stop when the engine has reached 80°C or after exiting the parking heater menu.

Check that there is a continuous flow of coolant in the hose from the thermostat housing to the expansion tank.

Run the engine until the thermostat has opened.

10. Check the coolant level and top up as necessary.
