| To remove | 
| 1. | Raise the car and remove the lower engine cover.   | |
| 2. | Place a suitable receptacle under the engine. Undo the oil plug and drain the engine oil. | |
| 3. | Unplug the oil temperature sensor and oil level switch. | |
| 4. | Remove the oil sump and wipe away any dripping oil.

| 5. | Remove the circlip on the connector.   | |
| 6. | Remove the connector and oil level switch from the oil sump. 
 | |||||||
| To fit | 
| 1. | Check that there are no impurities or other foreign matter in the sump and clean the sealing surfaces with benzine. | |
| 2. | Fit a new O-ring to the connector and grease it with vaseline. Fit the connector with the circlip.   | |
| 3. | Fit the oil level switch in the position illustrated. | |
| 4. | Apply
        
         87 81 841 Silicon flange sealant
        
        to the mating surfaces, see illustration.   | |
| 5. | Position the oil sump against the gearbox and fit it with a new gasket. Tightening sequence: 1 Tighten all bolts finger tight. 2 Tighten the bolts in the cylinder block and timing cover, Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 lbf ft) 3 Tighten the bolts in the gearbox Tightening torque M8, 20 Nm (15 lbf ft) Tightening torque M10, 40 Nm (30 lbf ft) | |
| 6. | Plug in the oil temperature sensor and oil level switch.   | |
| 7. | Fit the oil plug with a new seal. Tightening torque 18 Nm (13 lbf ft) | |
| 8. | Fit the lower engine cover and lower the car. | |
| 9. | Fill the system with engine oil. Refer to the specifications under
        
         Lubricants
