Cars affected

Saab 9-5 M04-05 within Vehicle Identification Number range 43000003 - 53502479 with engine alternative B235 and manual gearbox. Not all cars in the range are affected.

Background

Certain M04 cars (and some M05) with a 2.3 litre engine and manual gearbox have manifested high oil consumption. This can occur when the car is driven with low load and high engine speed at the same time.

Example: When the car is driven with a small amount of luggage and only the driver on a motorway at approx. 120-130 km/h (73-90 mph) for a longer time then the oil consumption may increase. A cause of this is the modified crankcase ventilation which was introduced with model year 2004.

At certain engine loads the hose between the throttle body and crankcase ventilation pipe can loosen.
