Control module

Control module

General

The control module is integrated in the SID, which has a 32-pin connector. The control module receives information from individual sensors, connectors as well as information from other systems.

The information is processed and used to activate the horn, audio system adjustment, upshift and downshift, instrument control, display lighting, CHECK message display and trip computer calculations. Specific information is sent by SID on the bus.

SID +30 power supply is adapted for a voltage between 9 and 16 V during driving. When the ignition is in the ON position, the control module is activated and the display is lit. If the ignition is in the OFF position, texts from bus-connected system can still be displayed on the SID.

SID is active during the following situations:

Ignition in position +15 alerts all SID functions except parking heater time programming (option).

Ignition in the OFF position alerts SID with bus information as follows:

- Remains on for 20 minutes if turned on by DICE.

- Kept active by audio system to show settings on the display.

- Can communicate with Tech 2 if SID is alerted via the bus.

- The timer for the parking heater can be programmed and started.

With the ignition OFF, the parking heater and clock can still be activated and the anti-theft alarm sensors disabled.

The control module stores diagnostic trouble codes when faults are detected. If changed, the SID must be ordered for each individual car and must be programmed by Saab Automobile.

It is important to ground yourself when handling control modules by grasping the body, for example. Avoid touching pins in the SID connector.

Diagnosis

The control module monitors its internal functions and inputs/outputs.

If an internal control module fault occurs, diagnostic trouble code B1605 will be generated.
