Compressor (4-cyl diesel)

Important

To avoid contaminating the system, clean the area around the parts to be removed. Contaminants and dirt can seriously affect the function and service life of the system.



1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Drain the refrigerant from the A/C system. See Draining and filling of refrigerant .


3. Remove the RH headlamp and direction indicator. See Headlamps .


4. Loosen the clip of the A/C compressor connector located on the RH structure/console behind the RH headlamp. Remove the connector.

5. Raise the car.

6. Remove the front and lower engine covers.


7. Remove the RH side cover.

8. Unload the Poly-V-belt and hang it up.


9. Remove the screws of the high and lower pressure pipes from the A/C compressor. Plug the pipes and the compressor.

Important

If the desiccant container has been open for more than 15 minutes in total, it should be changed.



10. Remove the A/C compressor retaining screws.

11. Remove the A/C compressor by lifting it by the attaching hook and rotating it forward. Pass the compressor through the hole in the subframe.


To fit


1. Adjust the oil level. See Filling and adjustment of compressor oil .

2. Fit the A/C compressor in place and tighten the retaining screws.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)


3. Lubricate and fit a new O-ring on the low pressure pipe of the A/C compressor. Fit the low pressure pipe.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

4. Lubricate and fit a new O-ring on the high pressure pipe of the A/C compressor. Fit the high pressure pipe.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

5. Fit the Poly-V-belt.


6. Fit the RH side cover.


7. Fit the lower and front engine covers.

8. Lower the car to the floor.

9. Plug in the A/C compressor connector and fit the connector with clips in the holder on the structure/console behind the RH headlamp.


10. Fit the RH direction indicator and headlamp. See Headlamps .

11. Evacuate the A/C system and refill with refrigerant. See Draining and filling of refrigerant .

12. Running in the compressor to distribute the compressor oil in the system:

- - Activate the A/C and let it run for at least 2 minutes at an engine speed of <1500 rpm.
