Conditions

Contaminants in the cylinder head can cause the tappets to seize.

Diagnostic procedure




1. Aut: Remove the banjo screw of the vacuum pump. Check and clean as necessary.

2. Remove the camshaft cover.

3. Remove the camshaft bearing caps and check them for damage. If the bearing caps are damaged, replace the cylinder head.

4. Remove the camshafts and tappets.

5. Clean the bearing cap bolts.

6. Clean the tappet seats. Make sure that the oil ducts are clean.

7. Check that the tappets have free passage in each cylinder. Clean away any contaminants.

8. Man: Check and, if necessary, clean the oil inlet passages to the tappets.

9. Replace all tapets on the exhaust side.

10. Fit the components.

11. Change the engine oil and oil filter.
