Camshaft position sensor

Camshaft position sensor

The sensor is inductive and keeps track of the camshaft position so that the engine control module can identify cylinder 1. The signal from the sensor is used in case the crankshaft position sensor malfunctions.

The field rotor flange has 7 teeth, where one double tooth indicates cylinder one. The camshaft position sensor works together with the crankshaft position sensor.

Diagnostics

If the crankshaft position sensor or corresponding wiring harness is out of order, it can be indicated by one of the following DTCs being set.

P0345 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit. Incorrect Signal.

P0346 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit. Plausibility Fault with Crankshaft Position Sensor.

P0347 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit. No Signal.

System reaction to a fault

No system reaction to P0345 and P0347.

With P0346, the engine stops.

If the control module does not register a signal from the camshaft position sensor, a recalculated value from the crankshaft position sensor will be used as a substitute value.
